Have you heard the noise of some barricades falling in the UK, lately?
"This was an entire nation delivering a stinging slap of rejection to the whole notion of pre-fabricated pop ruling the charts." said Morello.
Indeed, thanks to a popular Facebook Group instigated by Jon and Tracy Morter, the L.A. Nineties political rock band Rage Against the Machine ended Simon Cowell’s four year domination of the UK Christmas charts. The Facebook Group asked people to download a 1992 RATM song titled "Killing In The Name" to stop X-Factor manufactured pop music being number one this year again. And... it worked!
Really? This gotta be a joke. Because, bringing back an old song without any specific political background, is pure manipulation. Why this song in particular? Because it's about "refusing to do what anyone tells you". Admire the irony, please. Too bad i don't care enough to laugh about it all. Oh and my favorite part: "And Rage's victory over The X Factor was an act of God."
Nothing new on Planet Earth, people still don't think by themselves. "Those who think that the best way to challenge Simon Cowell's dominance of one part of the pop market is to resurrect Rage Against the Machine need to get out more." (*)
